Working Remotely in Oaxaca

You can't see it, but there's a view of mountains out of my office window

I've settled into my new place. The smell is gone (I'm pretty sure it was a cleaning product she mopped with), the Internet is fast, and nothing is biting me. So, life is good. I will have no problem staying here for a month.

It's actually great being in San Felipe del Agua. The best part about it, besides the new apartment being super convenient to Melody and Chris, is how walkable it is here. This is my street. I live the opposite way, where Pirata the dog is ready to lead me.

The town is incredibly quaint, too, with cobblestone streets and a beautiful church.

I ran across this donkey in the road the other day. I fed him tortilla chips to lure him out of the street.

This is about a block from my house.

I love the understated design here, like this garage.

Oaxaca is a really good city for working remotely. It's less touristy by far than San Miguel de Allende, and I love that. You get the sense that the majority of the people here are working, not on vacation. There's also a much younger vibe here than other places I've been. I find that a little odd because in my opinion, it would be a much better place to retire than SMA, but whatever the reason, I appreciate the more diverse mix of people. Furthermore, my Internet is fast in this new place  (Melody says hers is, too) and it's the cheapest place I've lived so far.

And then there's the weather! It's warm here even in December, and the nights are cool year-round. Right now we're in rainy season, but it's just the afternoons so I don't mind it. The already stunning mountains all around me are getting greener.

This is in front of Melody and Chris' house. It reminds me a lot of Costa Rica here.

I'm planning to stay here another month, until the end of June, and I'm not sure where my next move will be (maybe some Florida time with Mike?). The only drawback Oaxaca has is that it's hard to get back to Tampa from here, so I've considered checking out somewhere closer to Mexico City. I found a beautiful lake town called Valle de Bravo that is now on my list of possibilities. However, I see no reason to mess with a good thing for the time being.

Money spent yesterday:
120 pesos Naan bread to bring to dinner at Melody and Chris'
15 pesos limes to make margaritas :)

135 pesos = $7 USD
